AccuWeather: 'Greatest tornado concern' in Harrisburg area

AccuWeather forecasts severe thunderstorms and a concern for tornadoes. (AccuWeather)
Powerful and potentially damaging thunderstorms heading into the area Wednesday night and throughout Thursday could bring along the risk of tornadoes.

Both AccuWeather and the National Weather Service are forecasting very high winds along with this storm system, and AccuWeather reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday that the greatest tornado concern will take aim from Harrisburg to Philadelphia and spreads to the Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Delmarva Peninsula vicinities.

The heavy storms are expected to form a derecho, which is a massive storm system of strong, straight-line winds. AccuWeather warns that wind speeds could reach 80 mph. It also notes that winds of this magnitude could cause serious property damage.

A flood watch has been issued for southcentral Pennsylvania and the American Red Cross is urging central Pennsylvanians to take steps to prepare for the incoming severe weather.
